Over the last few years more and more businesses have started using printed adhesive tape to advertise their business and raise their profile.
Printing your logo and contact details on tape you use on a regular basis has to be the most cost effective way of achieving both objectives.
With a range of widths from 9mm to 150mm a choice of up to 3 colours and the standard length being 66m you really can make an impact on every item you package and send out. Not only does it look proffessional but it also works great as a security tape as you can easily see if it has been tampered with and is not easily replaced with a standard economy packaging tape.
Upon request we can also add a standard security warning which alerts customers to check the package and contents before they sign, this takes away the headache of trying to discover who is to blame should you encouter any problems.
if you are a company looking to get your name out there or simply looking to add that customised professional finish to your packages then printed tape really is the answer.

We have recently completed our new Stretch Wrapper showroom at our Preston Head Office. We now have on display our 4 main static machines, the Exp-408, Exp-308, Exp-108 & Exp-501 as well as some of the machine options such as alternative turntable and wrapping height sizes and integrated weigh scales.
The purpose of the display is to allow clients who are not sure of which machine is most suitable to see them all in operation at the same time. This was particularly beneficial to a printing company in Bradford who were impressed by the automatic nature of the Exp-501 and its screen counter which will allow them to see how many pallets they wrap on a daily basis. The order they placed will be the first Exp-501 that has been installed in the UK; a fact that shows that Contact Packaging are continuing to establish themselves as a major player in the Stretch Wrapper market.
We also recently took delivery of our first Exp-108W with the integrated weigh scales. Within a week of building the machine and placing it in the showroom a publisher in London placed an order for it; again a UK first for this model.

Following on from the success of our existing range of pallet wrapping machines we have now fully updated our web site to include all the latest models. We can now supply entry level machines suitable for wrapping less than 10 pallets per day to full in-line systems that can wrap 40 pallets per hour!.
As well as new machines the options available on the existing machines has been further enhanced. We can now supply machines with intergrated weigh scales, horse shoe style turntables for easy loading and top pressure plates for unstable loads.
After listening to feedback from our customers we have now included a better machine overview. Combined with the machine specifications our aim was for potential customers to be able to decide for themselves which machine is most suitable for them just by looking on the web site. Many customers have said that looking at other web sites had confused them about which machines did what and they did not like the fact that many have a base machine that you then add extras too unlike ours were it is a different machine for each application.
I must make a special mention of Paul Rouke @ PRWD who has done a fantastic job in creating all our web sites.
If enquiries start to filter through for individual machines as oppossed to requests for prices on all machines then I will know it has worked.

We still have one or two things to finalize but July looks like being a record month for Contact Packaging plc despite being in the midst of a credit crunch with a recession just around the corner.
Despite the excellent sales figures our nett profit is being kept in check by our spiralling fuel bill (30% increase on July 07 despite the fact we sent more out on 3rd party transport) and a huge wage bill but we recognise the need to look after quality staff.
When we analyzed the figures we can clearly see the that departments that are growing are those that are supported by their own dedicated web site; stretch wrapping machines, printed tape and the on-line shop.
The initial investment made by the Company was significant and frowned upon by many (mostly oldies) but the returns have been far beyond our expectations.
We work in a fiercely competitive industry with traditionally low margins. I firmly believe that to show any growth in the current climate you need to grasp modern technology with both hands. Gone are the days of reps cold calling all day long and applying hard sell tactics. There is nothing more frustrating for me than to go to a supermarket for food only to be confronted down the aisles by telephone and dental insurance sales people (Tesco take note, you are the worst). People want to buy products in their own time on their own terms.
Our web sites are shop windows that are there to create an interest. The shops are then staffed by people who know what they are talking about so the customer can be “advised” which is the right product for them and not “sold” the easiest option. Our Printed Tape manager Peter Leatherbarrow has worked his way up from our graphic design department and he has spent many hours operating the machines when we needed to pull out the stops out for an urgent order. Andrew Saxton who manages our stretch wrapping machine business has recently installed a machine at P&O Ferries. Andy said what pleased him most was not receiving the order but a comment that one of their managers had made as this proved to him that he was doing a good job. He told Andy that he was impressed by the way that he fully understood every aspect of the machine. This sort of knowledge can only be obtained through a hands on approach when it comes to servicing & repairs.
Whilst you will never get a more satisfying sales lead than word of mouth has the traditional salesman had his day? Only time will tell but in the short term we will continue to develop all our ecommerce platforms which in turn will be supported by a dedicated customer service team.

We have just returned from Interpack at Dusseldorf where we went to see the launch of the new EXR range of rotary wrappers.
Incidentally from leaving my house in Bolton to arriving at the exhibition took around the same time as it would for me to drive to the NEC at Birmingham if I did not use the toll road!
The Rotary Wrappers are an alternative to using plastic strapping to band products together. As they use mini rolls of stretch film there they are ideal for products that plastic strapping may cut into or scratch. They can also be used for wrapping long narrow objects such as pipework.
Initially there will be 2 models available;
EXR-301 has a flat table and wraps between 3 and 5 times with each cycle.
EXR-201 has a roller table, wraps between 3 and 20 times with each cycle and cuts the film at the end.

EXR-201
For full specifications and prices please call us on 0870 758 8114 and tell us that you have seen the machine on our “News” site.

What have Car Salesman & Concert Promoters have in common? Their goal is to put “bums on seats”.
Is this not now true for buyers. With our hectic lifestyles any personal time is limited so we need to make the most of our business time. This is why online shopping is growing at such an astonishing rate as so many of us just do not have the time or inclination too trail round the shops for food, clothes and entertainment.
This has a significant effect on the packaging market for a number of reasons. The increase in the popularity of selling sites such as EBay creates a market for packaging material supplies in manageable quantities. As these sellers are catering for a certain buyer and they too want to purchase any requirements they have in a similar way to how they sell.
With this in mind we have invested quite heavily in an ecommerce site to offer a comprehensive range of packaging materials, in smaller quantities at competitive prices. We have put a lot of emphasis on products that should appeal to EBay sellers such as, postal bags, bubble wrap, adhesive tape and boxes. Over the coming months we will monitor the which lines are the most popular and try to expand them were possible.
If you are the sort of person who buys a lot of goods online please visit the site store.contact-packaging.co.uk and let us know what you think. We welcome all types of criticism.

We have been printing adhesive tape in up to 3 colours since 1997. With 4 print machines, a polymer stereo maker, image setter, and graphic design department we really can say the we “produce in house”.
Unlike many of our competitors we do not solely rely on the print business to make living as we are a well established (1980) supplier of packaging consumables. We are one of the largest importers of adhesive tapes in the UK so we know we can purchase the master rolls at the very best prices. All these coupled together enable us to produce the tape very competitively but perhaps more importantly our print is as good as, if not better, than any other UK producer of printed adhesive tape.
It is fair to say there is a big difference between the price of plain and printed tapes, unlike corrugated cartons where printed boxes are normally produced on the same machines as plain boxes so there is little difference in price between the two. Despite this our print business is growing at an above expected rate.
Printed tape is one of the few products that are not purchased purely on price. If you wanted to seal your boxes as cheaply as possible then you would use plain brown tape. If you want your products to arrive complete when they get to your customer or if you want to advertise your product or give it that professional image then printed tape is for you.
There is a saying used in the entertainment world (mainly by wannabes) that you can never have too much publicity, either good or bad. Of course in business we never wantbad publicity but the more you can get your name in front of potential buyers the better so printed tape is an excellent advertising medium.
